Miserable State of Junk Dry Riser

Many dry riser compartments have been ridiculously stuffed with many junk items (like pillow, bolster and sofa cushion) for quite a long time. These miserable states make me wonder how the dry riser can be deemed usable without compliance with some safety guidelines (or ISO standard).

On few occasions, I had removed some dangerous and sharp objects from the dry riser compartment outside my family unit. There was once we called police upon seeing a huge suspicious bag being chained to the dry riser. The policemen recorded some clothes and rare stones (actually jade items) in the huge bag, and went looking for the owner of the bag. The owner (a mad woman living 2 levels up) was instructed to remove her obstructing huge bag from the dry riser compartment.

I have raised the above safety lapse through TC regarding HDB fire dry riser. After 2 months, TC has replied that the cleaner will remove and clear the rubbish in the service duct. Till today, the fire dry risers are apparently still in miserable states as before.

Never Ending Battle Against Junk

Unintended litters from junk mails have become many hot spots for fire hazards. The unintended litters also pose safety hazards to HDB residents, especially the elderly. From internet searches, there were actually many requests and discussions on junk mails since many years back (see examples below).

Junk Mails … (SG Forum, Nov 2004)
Litter at Letterbox … (Punggol Forum, Sep 2006)
Unsolicited Mails … (Sengkang Forum, Jun 2007)
Why are there countless … (Sengkang Forum, Jul 2008)
Junk mail distributors … (Stomp, Jun 2009)
Marketing flyers … (Tan Kin Lian’s Blog, Aug 2010)
Advertisers, stop shoving your flyers … (Stomp, Sep 2011)

After many months, nothing much has been done regarding junk mail (no proper place) in Sengkang. As the relevant people continue to turn a blind eye towards junk mails, many suggestions will just left to burst away like bubble and the battle drags on painfully for months and years.
